How a Residential Excavation Job Works

Most dirt work around a house follows the same order. Here's what to expect on a typical Arlington job:

  1. Site visit. We look at what needs to be done, how equipment gets in, where the dirt and debris will go, and where water drains.
  2. Utility locates. Before any digging, buried lines are marked through Texas 811, the free call-before-you-dig service.
  3. Protect the property. Mats or plywood go down where needed to protect the driveway and lawn from tracks.
  4. Dig, clear or grade. The work is done with equipment sized for the space, from a mini excavator to a skid steer.
  5. Haul off or spread. Extra soil, concrete and brush are hauled away, or spread and compacted on site if you want to keep it.
  6. Final grade and cleanup. The area is left smooth and sloped away from the house, and the driveway and street are cleaned.

Questions

Excavation FAQ

How much does excavation cost in Arlington, TX?

Small residential jobs typically start from about $1,500. Many projects are priced by the job, by the hour for equipment and operator, or by the cubic yard of dirt moved and hauled. Access, soil, hauling distance and what's underground change the price. See the excavation cost guide.

Do I need to call 811 before digging?

Yes. Texas law requires a utility locate request before digging. It's free, and we take care of it before any excavation starts so gas, electric, water and cable lines are marked.

Can you get equipment into my backyard?

Usually. Compact excavators and skid steers fit through many gates around 4 to 6 feet wide. If a fence panel needs to come down for access, we'll talk about it at the estimate.

Do you need a permit for excavation work in Arlington?

Some projects do, such as pool removal, retaining walls and work that changes drainage onto a neighbor's lot. Others, like most yard grading and French drains, usually don't. We'll tell you what applies to your project at the estimate.

Do you do commercial excavation?

We focus on homes and small residential lots in and around Arlington: backyards, side yards, lots and acreage.
